Golf Cart Parking in San Pedro, Belize
Whether you’re stopping for lunch, taking a Blue Hole sightseeing flight, joining a snorkeling tour, or spending the day on Caye Caulker, parking is part of planning your golf cart rental in San Pedro. Where you leave your cart depends on where you’re going and how long you’ll be away.
This guide covers downtown parking, longer stops, airport and tour departures, and parking at popular island destinations. It focuses on golf carts on Ambergris Caye; mainland car parking before taking a ferry from Belize City is a separate topic.

Parking has been a concern since at least 2011
Parking in downtown San Pedro has been a topic of local discussion for years. An August 2011 discussion on AmbergrisCaye.com raised concerns about carts occupying street spaces all day, how parking angles affected available space, and confusing traffic directions during street closures.
More recent visitor questions echo that practical concern: where can you leave a cart while shopping, taking a flight, or spending several hours on a boat tour?
The 2011 discussion provides historical context, rather than current parking rules. For today’s visit, check posted signs and choose a space suitable for the length of your stop.
Parking in downtown San Pedro
On Barrier Reef Drive (Front Street), Pescador Drive (Middle Street), and surrounding streets, look for signs and curb markings before leaving your cart.
Avoid red-painted curbs, including spots where the paint has faded. An unpainted curb does not automatically mean parking is allowed—check for other restrictions, too.
Keep these areas clear:
- Driveways and business entrances.
- Sidewalks and pedestrian access.
- Taxi-only spaces.
- Alleys and access routes.
- Spaces alongside another parked vehicle where your cart would block traffic.
For a quick shopping or food stop, use a permitted space near the business. If you plan to stay for several hours, look for a public parking area rather than occupying limited storefront parking.
Should you walk or drive into downtown San Pedro?
If you’re staying centrally and visiting nearby restaurants or shops, walking may be convenient. A golf cart can be useful for longer outings, carrying bags, or reducing walking distances.
You can also combine the two: leave your cart in a permitted space and explore nearby businesses on foot, provided that suits your mobility needs. Choose parking that allows enough time for your visit.
Your plans may only call for a cart on certain days—for example, exploring farther afield or getting around before and after a tour.
Staying longer? Check parking near Saca Chispas
For a longer visit downtown, check the public parking area on Angel Coral Street near Saca Chispas, also known as the Honourable Louis Sylvestre Sporting Arena.
Before leaving your cart, check that the lot is open and read any posted restrictions. Events or construction may affect access, so have an alternative in mind.
Find Saca Chispas sporting arena on Google Maps. This pin identifies the nearby landmark; check the parking entrance when you arrive.
Parking for airport flights and snorkeling tours
Planning a Blue Hole sightseeing flight or a snorkeling trip doesn’t necessarily mean leaving your golf cart at your accommodation. You may want it afterward for lunch, shopping, or exploring more of the island.
For a flight from San Pedro Airport, confirm your airline’s check-in location and ask where you can park for the duration of the tour. Visitors have reported street parking near Tropic Air and Maya Island Air, but availability and restrictions should be checked when you arrive. Aviz’s Coconut Drive location is directly across from Tropic Air, making it a convenient place to ask our team for guidance.
For a snorkeling tour, confirm the actual departure dock with your operator before choosing parking. The company’s office and boat departure point may be in different places. Ask where customers can leave carts and explain how long your tour will last.
Allow time to find a permitted space, lock the cart, and walk to check-in. Take your keys and valuables with you.
Parking at Secret Beach, The Truck Stop, and beach bars
When visiting Secret Beach, look for parking provided by the business you’re using and ask staff where to leave your cart. Keep access routes clear and avoid assuming that an open patch beside the road is a parking space.
At The Truck Stop, Palapa Bar, and other popular stops, check the venue’s parking arrangements when you arrive. If the available spaces are full, ask staff for an appropriate alternative.
Hotel and resort parking may be reserved for guests or customers. If you’re visiting a restaurant, beach bar, or spa, confirm that you can park there for your visit.
Lock your cart every time
Before walking away from your golf cart:
- Switch it off and take the key.
- Use the supplied steering lock or other locking device as demonstrated by your rental company.
- Take your valuables and bags with you.
- Photograph the cart’s identifying number and parking location.
- Choose a well-lit parking spot if you expect to return after dark.
Do not assume a public parking area is guarded or monitored.

Frequently asked questions
Check the parking location for current fees and conditions. Public lots, street spaces, and private venues may have different arrangements.
No. Other parked carts do not establish that parking is permitted. Check signs, curb markings, and whether your cart would block access.
Confirm your departure dock with the tour operator first. Ask for a parking recommendation that accommodates the full tour duration; parking near the operator’s office may not be near the boat. Lock your cart and take your keys and valuables.
Ask your airline where passengers can park during the flight and confirm the check-in location. Check nearby signs and curb markings before leaving your cart. If you’re renting from Aviz, our team across from Tropic Air can help you plan.
Check the restrictions for that exact location first. For a day trip, choose a space that permits longer parking and keeps nearby alleys, entrances, and businesses accessible.
If you can still see red paint, choose another spot. When a restriction is unclear, ask for local guidance before leaving the cart.
Ask the business you’re visiting where customers can park, or contact your rental company for guidance. Avoid squeezing into a space that obstructs pedestrians or traffic.
Keep the ticket and check its payment instructions and deadline. Contact the San Pedro Town Council Traffic Department if you need to confirm the amount or where to pay. Use an authorized payment channel and keep your official receipt. If you’re renting from Aviz, let our team know so we can help you understand the next steps.
